Yala Peak is a summit with an elevation of 5,700m/18,700ft on the northern side of Kathmandu. Yala Peak which lies between the Nepal and Tibet border offers stunning views of Mt. Shishapangma (8,027m) - the 14th highest mountain and other mountains of Langtang region and Tibet like Ganesh Himal, Langtang Lirung, Dorje Lakpa, etc.
Yala Peak is an accessible and one of the lowest trekking peaks in the Langtang region, Nepal. Trekking Routes
The journey starts with a scenic drive covering a distance of around 30 kilometers/19 miles from Kathmandu Valley to the Syabru Besi to the north which is also a gateway to the route of Yala Peak climbing. The walk starts from Syabru Besi within the lush forest trail moving along the river and gorges on the way to the Langtang Valley. The valley lies in the lap of the Himalayas which is naturally and culturally diverse. Moving a little higher, the next destination is Kyanjin Gompa (3,740m) a place named after a famous ancient monastery.
After an acclimatization day at Kyanjin Gompa to adjust the body at higher altitude and low pressure, the journey to Yala Base Camp began with a mesmerizing view of Ganchempo, Naya Kang, Tserko Ri, and Yala Peak. At the base camp, basic training for climbing techniques and using the climbing gear which includes: ropes, ice axes, harnesses, and crampons will be given. On the next day, it will be a special day as you are conquering the summit of Yala Peak. From the summit of Yala, the reward with views of mighty Himalayas like Shisapangma, Ganchempo, Dorje Lakpa, Naya Kanga, Langtang Lirung, and many other Tibetan mountains is really amazing for climbers.
On the same day, you will be trekking back to Kyanjin Gompa from the summit of Yala Peak for a night stay. Following back the same route, the journey descends towards the Lama Hotel and Syabru Besi for a night's rest respectively. The climbing journey ends with a scenic drive from Syabru Besi which is also the ending point to the Kathmandu valley.
